Know How to Calculate IELTS Band Score

If you want to study or immigrate abroad, you can use the IELTS to demonstrate your English language skills. Numerous institutions and organisations across the world recognise IELTS scores. For entrance to prestigious international universities and access to a world of options, a strong IELTS score is essential.

The goal of the blog is to explain in detail how to calculate ielts score. Let's begin by being familiar with the IELTS 9 band scale.

How is the Overall IELTS Band Score Calculated?

The average of each of the four components—the IELTS Speaking Band Score, IELTS Writing Band Score, IELTS Reading Band Score, and IELTS Listening Band Score—is used to determine the total IELTS band score. The acquired number is rounded to the nearest whole or half band after the average of the four given scores has been determined.

Let's say that after averaging the four component scores, the result is.25. The overall IELTS band score will be rounded up to the next half band in this situation. The number will be rounded up to the next whole band if we ultimately arrive at.75. If the final fraction is less than.25 or.75, the IELTS band score will be calculated by rounding down the result.

Some Examples –

Example 1 :

  • Reading – 6.5

  • Writing – 5

  • Speaking – 7

  • Listening – 6.5

Overall IELTS Band Score Calculation

  • 6.5 + 5 + 7 + 6.5 = 25

  • By dividing 25 by 4 we get 6.25

  • After rounding up the next half band we get 6.5 so the overall IELTS band score = 6.5

IELTS Score – Test Report Form

IELTS test results are typically released 13 days (if administered on paper) or 7 days (if administered on a computer) after the test has been completed. The test-takers are given a document known as the Test Report Form, or TRF, which contains comprehensive information about their performance on the IELTS exam and their total band score. The candidate's picture and basic biographical information are also included in the report. The report is crucial if you want to study or immigrate abroad or otherwise prove your language skills. The underlying organisations might receive this report straight from the candidates.

Validity of the IELTS Score

The IELTS Score is only good for two years starting on the test day. After two years of achievement, an applicant must retake the exam if they still need to know their IELTS score. Both the IELTS Academic and IELTS General tests continue to have the same validity period.
